Prof. Christoph Schickedanz, Violin

 Christoph Schickedanz, born in Darmstadt in 1969, is one of the most prominent violinist of his generation in Germany. Honours at various competitions in Europe (Berlin, Freiburg, Munich in Germany, Caltanissetta/Italy, Heerlen (the Netherlands), Sion/Switzerland) and the US (Bloomington/Indiana, Napa/California) prepared his way to a multi-facetted concert career as a soloist and interpreter of chamber music. He is presently member of the Gililov Piano Quartet Berlin (ex Berlin Philharmonic Piano Quartet) and the Johannes-Kreisler-Piano-Trio. Invitations to participate in concerts and at festivals have taken him through Europe, Asia and the USA.

In addition to the standard repertoire of solo and chamber music, Schickedanz has especially dedicated himself to the performance of neglected or forgotten composers. His discography with numerous CD productions for the labels Audite, cpo, one world music and telos music shows a wide range from the solo to the octet repertoire and has repeatedly attracted special notice by both the audience and the critics. Schickedanz has also been recording for the most important broadcasting stations in all over Germany, such as BR, SWR, WDR, HR, DLF, Deutschlandfunk Köln and Deutschlandradio Berlin.

Christoph Schickedanz began his studies at the Freiburg University of Music with Prof. Jörg Hofmann, a scholarship granted from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) enabled him to study at IU/Bloomington with Distinguished Professor Franco Gulli.
After completing the prestigious Solo Concert Examination at the University of Arts in Berlin with Prof. Uwe-Martin Haiberg he obtained a teaching position as an assistant in his violin class.
He has also been teaching as Associate Instructor at IU/Bloomington, as a lecturer at the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz and Guest Professor at the University of Arts Berlin and has been regularly invited to lead Masterclasses in Europe and Asia (for example at the Shanghai Conservatory).

In the last years he received various invitations to teach in universities such as Havana/Cuba, Port of Spain/Trinidad & Tobago, California State University Long Beach and Indiana University Bloomington/USA and the Tongji University Shanghai.

In 2004 Schickedanz accepted a full time Professorship at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg where he is presently also serving as Head of Strings. Among his students are competition price winners, many of his alumnae are holding orchestral jobs in important German cities, for example in Berlin, Essen, Hamburg, Leipzig or Munich.
