Prof. Jan Ickert, cellist

Jan Ickert began his musical education at Dr.Hoch's Conservatory Frankfurt with Maike Kunstreich.
Later he studied at the conservatories in Wuppertal, Berlin and Frankfurt with teachers such as Prof. Susanne Müller-Hornbach, Prof. Andreas Greger and Prof. Michael Sanderling. After completing additional studies with Prof. Joseph Schwab, he finished his concert exam in 2010 with honors.

He collaborated with teachers like Eberhard Feltz, Bernard Greenhouse, Peter Bruns, Wen-Sinn Yang, Gustav Rivinius, Wolfgang Boettcher, Jens-Peter Maintz and Troels Svane.
In 2002 he founded the Chagall Quartet Berlin, which won several prizes at international competitions (Pergamenschikow Prize for Chamber Music, International Joseph-Joachim-Kammermusikwettbewerb and the German University Competition). With the Chagall Quartet he performs at international festivals, such as the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Mozart Festival Würzburg and the Rheingau Music Festival.
Since 2008 Jan Ickert is teaching violoncello and chamber music at the Emanuel Feuermann Conservatory of the Kronberg Academy. Since 2013 he has also been artistic director of the Institute.

Since his studies he is a sought-after soloist, chamber musician and orchestral cellist in Germany and abroad:
From 2009 to 2010 Jan Ickert was assistant principal cellist at the Erfurt Opera Orchestra. Engagements at the “Klangverwaltung” (conductor: Enoch zu Guttenberg), in the chamber orchestra “Spira Mirabilis”, the Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica under Gidon Kremer and as solo cellist of the Folkwang-Kammerorchester Essen, as well as in the same position at the Bavarian Chamber Philharmonic (Reinhard Goebel ) followed. Since 2011 he has worked as a permanent substitue at the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra and the Staatstheater Wiesbaden.

After many years teaching at the Musikhochschulen Mannheim and Frankfurt, the Frankfurt Musikhochschule 2017 appointed him professor for violoncello.

He teaches at master classes in Germany and abroad, such as at the Casalmaggiore International Festival, the “Kasseler Cellotagen” and the International Summer Academy at Schloss Heiligenberg.
